Tapering

Definition

Tapering is the planned reduction in training volume (while maintaining intensity) in the weeks before a race, allowing the body to recover, consolidate fitness gains, and arrive at the start line fresh.

Why it matters

Proper tapering can improve race performance by 2-3% compared to training through race week. Volume typically drops 40-60% over 1-2 weeks. Many athletes fear losing fitness during taper — the opposite is true.

How FlipMP uses it

FlipMP tracks your TSB (form) during taper periods. A rising TSB indicates you are recovering properly. The AI coach confirms you are in the optimal freshness window for your race date.
