FTP (Functional Threshold Power)

Definition

FTP is the highest average power (in watts) you can sustain for approximately one hour. It is the cornerstone cycling metric from which all training zones are calculated.

Why it matters

FTP is to cycling what lactate threshold pace is to running. All power-based training zones — from active recovery to neuromuscular power — are calculated as percentages of your FTP. Tracking FTP progress shows you whether your training is working.

How FlipMP uses it

FlipMP tracks your FTP over time using data from Garmin, Wahoo, and Zwift. When you complete an FTP test, the new value updates all your power zones automatically. The AI coach monitors your FTP trajectory to confirm fitness gains.
