Power-to-Weight Ratio

Definition

Power-to-weight ratio (W/kg) is your FTP divided by your body weight in kilograms. It is the primary metric for predicting cycling climbing performance.

Why it matters

On flat terrain, absolute power matters most. Climbing is determined by W/kg — getting lighter or getting stronger both improve it. Elite road cyclists have W/kg of 5.5-6.5+.

How FlipMP uses it

FlipMP calculates and tracks your W/kg over time using your FTP data and body weight. It shows whether improvements come from increased power or weight changes.
