RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion)
Definition
RPE is a subjective scale for measuring workout intensity based on how hard you feel you are working. The original Borg Scale runs 6-20; the modified CR10 scale runs 0-10.
Why it matters
RPE is a valuable complement to objective metrics. On days when heart rate is elevated due to heat, illness, or stress, RPE provides context. Research shows RPE correlates well with physiological markers when used consistently.
