Cadence

Definition

Cadence is the rate of movement expressed in repetitions per minute. In running: steps per minute (SPM). In cycling: pedal revolutions per minute (RPM). Optimal cadence varies by individual and sport.

Why it matters

Higher running cadence (170-180+ SPM) reduces ground contact time and injury risk. Optimal cycling cadence (85-95 RPM) minimizes muscular fatigue. Both metrics are tracked as proxies for technique efficiency.

How FlipMP uses it

FlipMP tracks running cadence and cycling cadence from Garmin and other devices. It monitors trends over time — improving cadence efficiency correlates with better running economy and cycling power.
